An Oldy But A Goody

There is so little of real interest going on at present I hope I may be forgiven for dwelling in the past.

Now I am old, but not that old that I can remember Jim Laker bowling in 1958. He is a legendary spinner, whether I saw him bowl or not, and as such gets his own little homage - and I just like the bowling action.

Is This A Spinner I See Before Me?

Well time will tell, but 5 for 24 is a pretty good start to Nathan Lyon's test career - and boy do the Aussies need some one to fill that spinning role.

A Real Trooper

The ends Warney will go to just to support the sponsor. Lighting up the Dunhill golf tournament was just another day in the life of a legend about town.

All We Are Saying, Is Give Adil A Bowl!

It is time for the new sensation. Get the new masks printed and distributed and get this boy into the big time. He has got the big hands, the spinners stare and who can resist the jaunty hat on backwards.

I'm Back

Perhaps not cause for outlandish celebrations but I do feel a bit like young Mishra here, happy at the start of a new life episode. It is slightly disappointing to find so little has changed in the cricket world in 3 weeks but then what did I really expect, a consistent NZ team?

Good to see most of you still fighting the good fight, any thoughts on images you might like to see?

The Half Monty

This one is for all you Monty fans. It hasn't been a bumper season for the Sikh of Tweak but it is hard to hold that little leaper down for long.

Put Your Best Head Forward

Can't find anything topical that inspires me so here is an image of Paul Adams doing his thing. Not the sort of action that is likely to lead to a long career, but definitely unique.

Up Yours India!

Now I am sure young Mendis is far to well mannered to actually abuse an entire Sub Continent but his actions may end up sticking it right up the India team, even with the best of intentions.

Nice One Lisa

Can't believe there were people out there who thought this was Brett Lee. Not Lisa though, she recognised a first rate prancer in good old Tuffers.

Comes The Time

It is another one of those enigmas, wrapped in a quandary. How good could the McGilla have been? Good enough to stride into most other teams in the world I suspect. Oh well, he is about to become another thread in the rich tapestry of world cricket, and some fairly interesting threads there are in that particular weave.

No Starfish This Fella

Great Uncle Jrod gave the world a recent post explaining why Monty was a starfish and why Adil Rashid was the next big thing. Presumably an oyster (succulent and tasty?) or perhaps a reef shark (sleek and deadly?).

In any event I applaud such tirades and offer an image of the young leggy in case you don't know what the young tyro looks like.

Man On A Mission

The glare, the slight curl to the lip, the solid set to the jaw. Could Monty be determined to have a big summer or is it just a while since he has had a good bounce?

The Wisdom of Ages

Experience is the best perspective, and you can quote me on that.

And what is the great Lance Gibbs saying? I would like to think it goes something like "it doesn't matter how flat the track is, if they think its turning, its turning".

Another One Bites The Dust

Farewell to the Hogger.

By all accounts a good bloke without being a true force at the bowling crease. I liked the enthusiasm he brought to his game and lets face it left arm spinners are always interesting to watch - even when they don't turn the ball much.

Let us all hope his farewell is dignified and short and with as few speeches as possible from media icons.

Great Spinners

Our poll has closed and Anil Kumble seems surprised to have done as well as he has. He shouldn't be, he and Murali are the two best spinners in the current game.

Of course Murali has that special elbow and Kumble has those special fingers and a chin that hypnotizes batsman. Whatever their natural advantages they are bloody good to watch.

Another Old Spinner

Only three days left to vote on your top 4 spinners of all time.

Jim Laker is doing well for a man who can only be seen in black and white. Visit 10 wickets to see a video of him taking most of those 19 in a match. It is interesting to note how few batsman stare accusingly at the wicket - they just tuck and walk - how times have changed.
