Stand Tall ...

... you mighty oak of England.

Oh, and just be careful of those parasitic climbers.

Just kidding Jimmy.

Fade To Past

The Ashes 2009, already a thing of the past. It will very interesting to see if it proves a watershed series for many players and more than just Freddie's farewell. The rest of him might be buggered but there was not too much wrong with the throwing arm.

Arise Sir Fred

The English love nothing more than a bit of post Arthurian Legend, with the hero riding to the rescue to defeat the fire breathing foe.

Will One Leg Fred vanquish the vile antipodeans or will he fall foul to the long English tradition of heroic but tragic endings?

The tournament at the Oval will answer all.

A Need For Action

Who decided to give the players a rest? I want more action now. The long dark nights are so much bleaker without the prospect of a session or two of test dramatics. I only hope they return to the crease full of bounce and grimace.

A Great Storyline

Nothing about this test has followed the script, or made much sense, but it is compulsory viewing. A cricket journo's wet dream (yes, I am sure they have them) with so many stories there are going to be some angles left uncovered. Let us all hope it is not a weather forecast that ends the show.

I Am Not Convinced

I know Freddy says he is going to retire from Test cricket but even his own face seems to suggest it is not a completely done deal.

A year without an injury and there could well be an Indian summer to this guys career.

Fred The Stretch

But what is it that Fearless Freddy is stretching? Why is it that these things are now done in mid pitch where any photographer worth his SLR can take a compromising shot? Pre game pitch theatre, it could be the next big thing.

In The Best Traditions...

...of heroic but ultimately futile English sportsmanship, Freddy charges in on one leg and a grimace. Not quite Scott of the Antarctic or the Charge of the Light Brigade but damn my eyes the lad can play in my team any time he wants.

The Slightly Odd Couple

Good to see the dynamic duo inspiring people to stretch their imaginations. Thanks to Moses@beerandsports for tipping me off about this image. Apparently KP has a really tight arse, or so I've heard, but then Freddy does have a really big hand.

The Bounce Of The Ball

Some one told Freddy that if you can bounce the ball a thousand times with out missing your luck will change. Well it is worth a shot.

A Bit Of A Stretch

I can't help thinking it is going to take more than a few lunges and warm up games of rugger to get England up to speed. To come from playing the Windies in the semi dark for some one elses money to take on India, who are in the mood to grind people into the dust of their very benign wickets, is a very big ask.

Still, limber up and have a go fellas, anything might happen.

Stand Tall You Mighty Oak

200 test wickets is reason enough to stick your chest out and yell, besides if it is good enough for that Andre fella...

The rot may have been arrested but it could still be a little early to predict the "great redemption".

King Cricket has an outstanding written description of the build up to this event. "Summon the angel of bilious rage" is a great line.

Something To Laugh About

Now what do you think Freddy has said to The Big Harm to generate such levity? Feel free to share your twisted imaginings.

The Lion Rampant

Didn't The England used to have a guy play for them who looked a bit like this?

While we are great admirers of The Atheist's mystery bums this image also adds to our growing collection of subtle but obvious bulges - and there is no need to guess who's it is.

The Gentle Art of Rasterbation

Now I might be the last person in the blogosphere to think this is new or funky so bear with me if this is very old hat.

Have you practiced rasterbation? You can by visiting The Rasterbator and turning any image you fancy into a large sectioned print off that you can stick on the wall, or any where else you fancy. It is free and the best way of getting a life size Freddy just where you want him.

Safety First

Sometimes it is just safer to sit and wait.

Poor old Freddy must be starting to wonder what other karmic price must be paid before he can just get on with day to day cricket.
