It's All About Character

Every time I open my Concise Wisden I come across this photo of the Gloucestershire team of 1893 and those guys in the front row just look like a hell of a bunch. From left to right you have Hemingway (any relation?), Townsend (not Pete), Grace (WG), Jessop ( The Croucher) and Board (not Broad). I can't help thinking it must of been a changing room that was never dull.

Poster Boy

Read an interesting article the other day that talked about how unfair it was that we only remember WG from the photos taken late in life. Interesting idea - a bit like seeing all of those late career movies of Babe Ruth.

In both cases they were once dominating 25 year olds who played better than any one ever had before.
